Physical Touch

From infancy, physical touch plays a role in everyone’s emotional development, but for some it carries far more impact. A hug, kiss, gentle touch, or sexual encounter can be the conduit of the message that they are loved. Similarly, it can be a destructive touch or a lack of physicality that damages their emotional love tank. Chapman says there are many dialects of this love language, limited only by imagination. It is important to let one’s spouse be the guide in what they find pleasing. From hand holding to sitting close, the language of loving touch can be communicated easily. A brief exchange such as a kiss at the door or a hand guiding one through a crowded room can go a long way with those who speak this love language. Thoughtful sexual intercourse or a loving back massage can do the trick as well. For someone whose primary love language is physical touch, loving touch goes beyond the basic human drive for sex. It becomes the primary channel through which they send and receive love.
